TECHNICAL TOURS
California is recognized leader in the application of ITS technologies and practices. 12th World Congress technical tours provide you with a first-hand experience in some of the world's most advanced ITS centers all within a short distance from San Francisco.

Caltrans TMC/TravInfo/Emergency Management/CFS Highlights
This tour will showcase the San Francisco Bay Area's Traffic Management Center (TMC) for the region's expansive freeway network and the TravInfo? traffic information center (TIC) - the heart of the region's 511 traveler information system. The TMC tour will also feature a presentation highlighting the innovative projects and services designed especially for the World Congress to showcase advancements in system management technologies in California.

Real-Time Transit/Regional Transit Information System
The tour will begin with a presentation on the Internet-based 511 transit information services along with the NextMuni Agency webpage at the Moscone Center. Attendees will continue on, via the Muni underground, to the Control Center to view the real-time communication system in action, followed by a trip to Fisherman's Wharf, via Embarcadero Station, on one of the Muni's historic street cars.

East Bay Smart Corridor - Alameda CMA
The tour will begin at the ITS World Congress venue, where a presentation will be given about the East Bay Smart Corridor technology. This presentation will include a demonstration of the Smart Corridor Website, highlighting the camera feed and incident data. Next, a demonstration of the hardware will be given, including the cameras, radar and signal priority equipment used for the Smart Corridor project. The attendees will then be taken to the East Bay to catch the San Pablo Rapid bus. The Rapid is a very successful bus route, utilizing the Smart Corridor technology in order to get riders where they need to go more quickly. The tour will end at the final bus stop, Jack London Square, where the attendees will enjoy lunch before taking the ferry back to San Francisco. This tour includes lunch at Jack London Square, Oakland.

TransLink Smart Card Fare Collection System
This tour will include a visit to the TransLink? Service Bureau in Concord, CA for a demonstration of the smart card fare collection system now being installed on each of the region's transit agencies. ERG Transit Systems, the TransLink operations company, will provide demonstrations of the card issuance process, customer services, TransLink card interaction with various fare payment devices, and the settlement and transaction clearinghouse processes.

FasTrakTM Electronic Toll Collection
This two-part tour will begin with a visit to the FasTrak Customer Service Center in San Francisco, with a tour of the facility and Website demonstration. Next, a visit to the Bay Bridge toll plaza, showing attendees the automatic vehicle identification and electronic toll collection system. The tour will conclude with a presentation of the toll sergeant's video surveillance system and the operational activities associated with electronic toll collection.

SF Go
Attendees will tour the new SF Go transportation management facility at SBC Park, the home of the San Francisco Giants. The SF Go project features traffic management technology in and around SBC Park, including wireless CCTV, changeable message signs and transit signal priority. After a presentation inside the Park, attendees will ride the new 3rd St. Muni light rail to see the transit signal priority technology in action.
Wednesday, November 9, 9:00 a.m. - Noon

ITS Research Campus, UC Berkeley
Attendees will tour the ITS Research Campus in Richmond, where they will see demonstrations of some of the most cutting edge transportation research. The campus, called the Richmond Field Station, is owned and operated by the University of California, Berkeley. Attendees will be shown demonstrations of precision bus docking and guidance, Transit signal priority, and PATH's "Intelligent Intersection", among other things.

Silicon Valley Smart Corridor/San Jose TMC
Tour attendees will visit the San Jose Traffic Management Center, which features the latest advances in coordinated traffic management between freeways and arterials including traffic and airport information. The tour will conclude with a visit and lunch at the Technology Museum, which is located in downtown San Jose, before heading back to San Francisco.

Capitol Corridor/Commuter Rail Technologies
Tour attendees will travel on the Capitol Corridor Commuter Rail to Sacramento to experience a demonstration of wireless communication services and other technologies including remote ticketing, passenger safety applications and demonstration of wi-fi techhnologies. The tour will include a visit to the train museum and a chance to explore Old Sacramento before returning to San Francisco.
Post-Congress tour on Friday, November 11, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

SOCIAL EVENTS

CAATS Reception
Opening night will be one of the most exciting parties of the Congress. The California Alliance for Advanced Transportation Systems (CAATS) is taking over the entirety of San Francisco's new Asian Art Museum and is hosting a reception never to be forgotten. When guests are not catching up with friends and networking, they will have complete privileges to view the wonderful collections of art from Japan, China, Korea and India, in a museum that has become a "must see" destination for visitors to San Francisco. Indulge in great food and wines from California's famous wine regions, and enjoy entertainment that displays San Francisco's rich cultural heritage.
